Brain Bee Committee:
- The role of the Brain Bee Committee is to help put on a Brain Bee, a competition that high school students can participate in to test their knowledge on the various facets of neuroscience, and a Brain Bee workshop at Rice. You will work with fellow Brain Bee Committee members and an EVP on this initiative.
NeuroCamp Committee:
- The role of the NeuroCamp Committee is to help develop and establish a high school summer neuroscience research program/camp for Houston-area students. You will work on this initiative with fellow committee members and an EVP. Staying over the summer to volunteer at the programs is not mandatory to be on the committee (but highly recommended- you’d want to see the results of your hard work over the year firsthand!)
Brain Awareness Week Committee:
- The role of the Brain Awareness Week Committee is to plan events for Brain Awareness Week, which is a national initiative that occurs in March. You, along with fellow committee members and the IVP, will be responsible for organizing the events. It’s a good way to contribute to the club with a lower time commitment than an officer position.
RNS Mentorship Program:
- Are you an undergrad considering a Neuroscience major or minor? Curious about meeting new people interested in neuroscience? Interested in learning more about research, internships, and educational opportunities?
- Are you an upperclassman interested in advising a small group of mentees, connecting informally through coffee chats over the course of the semester, and helping them learn more about everything from course recommendations to research opportunities?
- Mentors and mentees will receive stipends to cover the cost of coffee chats, and all those involved will be invited to a mentorship dinner (date TBA) with graduate students, faculty advisors, and possibly medical and research professionals from the TMC.
Executive Team:
- The role of the RNS Executive Team is to organize events and initiatives that foster neuroscience interest and awareness at Rice University as well as the surrounding Houston community.

He/she will assist the president in duties such as
- bringing together the whole team for meetings;
- coordinating with the faculty advisor;
- making sure all team members are aware and on top of their responsibilities;
- organizing the RNS Mentoring Program; and
- coming up with new ways to engage the HTX community.
- Internal Vice President: The IVP is in charge of organizing Brain Awareness Week in the spring as well as monthly events targeted towards the undergraduate neuroscience population.
- External Vice Presidents: There will be two EVP’s- one in charge of the annual Brain Bee Competition at Rice for high school students in the spring and one in charge of NeuroCamp in the summer (along with monthly events targeted towards the undergraduate neuroscience population).
- Operations Chair: The operations chair is responsible for managing all financial aspects of RNS (fundraising and bookkeeping) as well as our social media presence (once-a-semester newsletters, listserv maintenance, website upkeep, and graphic design).

NeuroCamp Teaching Volunteer:
- RNS NeuroCamp is an initiative of the Rice Neuroscience Society. We will be hosting high school students from Houston-area high schools for a 2-day camp (August 6-7, 2022) during the summer to foster interest and awareness in STEM and neuroscience. 2 volunteers each will be responsible for a group of 6 students in a style similar to O-Week groups. Additionally, volunteers will also be responsible for teaching different neuro lesson plans and directing other activities. BIOC 129 course credit may be possible for volunteers!

Event ideas? Let us know.
- This is an opportunity for you to plan an event that you want to happen. Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary field and the officers can’t necessarily address all of it- that’s where you step in. Let us know what events you’d like to see on campus and we’ll be in touch and do our best to make it happen. Email your ideas and details to riceneurosciencesociety@gmail.com
