Brain Awareness Week

Brain Awareness Week (BAW) is the global campaign to increase public awareness of the progress and benefits of brain research. Come join the Rice Neuroscience Society as we hold several events during the week of March 18-22, 2019 to celebrate BAW!

Tuesday, March 19 (7-9PM) in Sewall 307:
We will focus on Alzheimer’s disease for Day 1 of BAW. Join us as we make cards for residents affected by Alzheimer’s who live in two Houston long-term care facilities (Village of Meyerland and Belmont Village). We will also be watching Still Alice, an Oscar-winning movie about Alzheimer’s disease. Everyone who attends will get free East-West boba and Tiff’s Treats!

Wednesday, March 20 (7-8PM) in Sewall 305:
For our second BAW event, we will be hosting Dr. Vaishnav Krishnan from the Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Krishnan is a physician-scientist who does epilepsy research. He will give a talk on “The Application of Neuroscience for the Treatment of Human Disease.” There will be cookies, other sweet treats, and hot chocolate from Coffeehouse for everyone who comes!
Here is Dr. Krishnan’s presentation for those who are interested: Presentation for RNS-1p6fs7i

Thursday, March 21 (7-8PM) in Will Rice College New Dorm Grove-Side Balcony:
The last BAW event will highlight the importance of mental health and physical activity through a yoga session with two professional yoga instructors. We’ll have yoga mats available, but we ask those who have a mat to bring theirs. We will have deliciously healthy smoothies from Nourish Juice Bar for all participants!
A special thank you to our sponsors: Student Activities President’s Programming (SAPP) Fund and the Student Association Initiative Fund!
